TOP 10 AUDIOBOOKS FOR ENTREPRENEURS

I’m a busy person, but I also appreciate that you must find time to learn new things as well as refine and re-enforce what you already know, that’s why I’m an audiobook addict.

Truth be told, I’ve quite a large library of business books, but I tend to use them more for reference that actually read them from cover to cover.

What I’ve found is that audiobooks are perfect for me because I can easily find the time to listen while in the car on the way to business and social events and also while preparing and eating meals at home too – I decided to ditch the TV in the kitchen a long time ago now and it’s one of the best things you can do if you’re serious about being successful.

In general I listen to at least one new book a week (I must be one of Amazon’s best customers the amount I spend with them and their sister company Audible.)

So I’ve looked through over 200 downloaded business audiobooks and around 50 audiobooks on CD to pick my top 10 (I didn’t go as far back as the audio cassettes I have, but it made me realise how long I’ve been learning this way).

Yes I could have given you 100 or more to listen to, in fact, check out my blog post with a fairly up to date library of what’s in my collection now to see more great titles, but from just these 10 you’ll generate the best return on your investment financially and in time too.

My recommendations here also work well in this audiobook format, not all books do, in fact, I feel these audiobooks are superior to the physical book, which in most cases I also have to use as a reference.

So in no particular order, here’s my top 10…

Outwitting The Devil

OUTWITTING THE DEVIL – NAPOLEON HILL

Even though it was written in the 1930’s what you’ll learn from this is even more applicable and powerful today. Yes I realise that Napoleon Hill’s “Think And Grow Rich” is a classic and a must read (or should I say listen to) title, but this is my most recommended and gifted book (other than my own books of course) and the audiobook version brings the story and meanings alive.

The Chimp Paradox

THE CHIMP PARADOX – Dr STEVE PETERS

There are many people who claim to be able to explain how our mind works, but I don’t feel that anybody can convey this in a way that’s so effective. Dr Peters may be a scientist whose work has focused on the most successful British sports people but what you’ll discover from this book can transform you business results too.

Winners And How They Succeed Alastair Campbell

WINTERS AND HOW THEY SUCCEED – ALISTAIR CAMPBELL

A few years ago I was lucky enough to meet Alistair because we were discussing a project he was involved in and I was asked to advise on marketing strategy, so when he completed this book I knew it would be exceptional and it doesn’t disappoint. Winners and How They Succeed has input from what has to be the greatest collection of successful people, across all spectrums of life, even the British Royal Family, and therefore is a must “listen” title.

The E-Myth

THE E-MYTH REVISITED – MICHAEL E GERBER

This is a well-known book, but I feel that as an audiobook it is even more compelling. There are so many lessons in this book that if you don’t take in what he’s written you’ll be worse off personally and financially. When it comes to entrepreneurship, the message of working on, not in your business is critical to long-term success and happiness too and that’s what you’ll realise from this audiobook.

The Game

THE GAME – NEIL STRAUSS

At first glance, this doesn’t seem like a book for entrepreneurs – my partner Alison certainly didn’t think so until she’d read it, but the truth is this audiobook demonstrates how the most emotional human behaviours can be influenced in a systematic and predictable way. So if you can influence human emotion so effectively when it comes to personal relationships, just imaging what can be done in a sales and marketing situation.

Pitch Anything

PITCH ANYTHING – OREN KLAFF

Whether you’re looking to raise money or not, this is a must listen to audiobook. In business the ability to compel prospects and those you work with to back you is critical and what’s shared in this audiobook will serve you on a daily basis as you look to expand and develop.

Act Now Kevin Harrington

ACT NOW – KEVIN HARRINGTON

Having discovered, developed, invested in and produced many products myself over the years it’s always interesting to hear another person’s angle. Even though I’m based in the UK I knew who Kevin was and not only enjoyed his story but loved the way he approaches product development, sales and

Built to Sell

BUILT TO SELL – JOHN WARRILLOW

In the past, I’ve been very guilty of making the mistakes pointed out in this audiobook, in fact, I repeated many of them as I took on more and failed to work in a way that allowed me to be a true entrepreneur. If nothing else, by listening to this audiobook it’ll help you identify mistakes you may be making now or could make in the future, saving you so much time and stress.

Abundance

ABUNDANCE – DIAMANDIS AND KOTLER

In business, you need to be looking to the future and this audiobook will open your mind up to what’s happening and how some of the greatest visionary

THE-ULTIMATE-SALES-MACHINE-CHET-HOLMES

THE ULTIMATE SALES MACHINE – CHET HOLMES

This is, in my opinion, the blueprint for getting sales people, even bad ones, result that are outstanding. In business we all need to sell to survive and when you have this knowledge at your disposal you can be sure that what you do and how you do it will get results – it’s just a shame Chet’s no longer with us because I’d have loved to have spent time with him and learned first hand from a true sales master.
